Anaesthesia in birds:

Recommendations:

• Solid diet should not be withdrawn for more than one hour. (Since basal metabolism is very high in these species). Birds weighing less than 250 g should not be fasted.
• Ensure that the bird´s temperature does not drop by taking into account the condition of the plumage and maintaining an ambient temperature of at least 25°C.

Intramuscular injection:

• in the thigh for aviary birds and birds of prey;
• in the pectoral muscles for flightless birds, climbers and caged birds.
  

Intravenous injection:

• in the brachial vein
• in the left jugular vein for small birds.
