Rompun for immobilisation of cattle in the field – instructions for use:
|
Dose: 0.4 - 0.8 mg/kg Rompun
|
Use 2% Rompun for small quantities. For adult cattle, use a 5% or 10% solution reconstituted from lyophilised Rompun.
Procedure: approach the animal in the field in a tractor so that it does not become alarmed and run away at the sight of a human being. This is important because the efficacy of Rompun may be considerably impaired if the animal is excited.
- The best target regions are the neck and the top of the thigh. This can be done from a distance using a dart gun. The dart must penetrate in an upright position to ensure intramuscular as opposed to subcutaneous administration (which weakens the effect considerably).
- Inject all the solution at once. Wait for approximately 15 to 20 minutes before approaching the animal for further handling; it must be recumbent and there should be no movement of the ears.
- Tilt the animal’s head down during transportation to avoid choking.
Rompun enables cattle to be approached safely in the field.
